Meet our beautiful baby Kaylee! She decided she didn't want to wait any longer (like maybe another 5 weeks!) and was born December 28, 2009 at 10:19am weighing 5lbs 1.1oz and 19 inches long! This year we couldn't come home for Christmas, so my family decided they would come down here and spend the week after Christmas with us. They got here Sunday night December 27th! I was so excited to spend time with them - little did I know I'd be a bit preoccupied that week :) So Sunday night I have this thought - what if I have my baby while my fam is here. But I quickly push this thought aside cuz there's no way that could happen! So I go to sleep and sure enough I wake up 12:30am absolutely drenched, yep my water's broke! We grab the camera and cell phone, go tell my parents in the next room, and off we go to the hospital! . We have a brand new hospital two minutes down the street from our house, but since I'm high risk we go to a hospital 25 minutes away with an awesome NICU (Kiya spent some time there too) and it's where my doctors deliver. I swear that was the longest drive ever! All I can think is this baby is not supposed to be coming yet and is she ok, is there something wrong!? When we have these crazy times in our lives, Lance is so calm and positive and he's able to talk me down from being totally freaked out. We get all checked in and hooked up to monitors, I'm not really having contractions and I'm dialated to a 2, so they start me on petosin at about 3:00am. Wow did that bring on the contractions, and can I just say - they hurt REAL bad! By 7:00am I'm begging for the epidural :) And finally I get it at 8:00 am - ah heaven! At that point I'm still at a 3/4. But by 10:00am I'm fully dialated and feeling lots of pressure. So they have me do a "test" push, and baby's ready (and I am too!)! Doctor Lee comes in and after ten minutes of pushing we meet our beautiful baby girl! They laid her on my stomach and Lance got to cut the cord! They got her all clean and wrapped her up and I got to cuddle with her for a little bit :) They did have to take her up to the NICU. So after I got all fixed up and after the epidural wore off, they took me up to see her! She is so beautiful and such a blessing to have in our family! And we're so blessed she was born when she was, Father in Heaven was watching over her and knew it was time for her to come. After she was born we tested her blood and she's A+ (I'm A-) and she has antibodies in her, which caused jaundice. Kaylee's been under phototherapy off and on for a week and a half - but it looks like we might be done with that yea! She's a tough girl, the doctor said he's positive she won't need any blood transfusions! Because she was premature she can't eat very well, she gets tired easily and has a hard time coordinating the suck, swallow, breath (forgetting the breath part mostly, which scares mommy!) So she has a feeding tube in her nose, we try to give her a bottle first and if she gets too tired to finish, or is having trouble coordinating - the rest goes through the tube. So now is the waiting game, she has to gain weight (she's back up to 4lbs 15oz from 4lbs 8oz) and has to be eating good (without the tube) and then we get to bring her home! I can't wait to bring her home and introduce her to her sister! I was in the hospital for three days and when I came home Kiya kept saying "baby all gone" and she knows that all the baby things in the house are baby Kaylee's. It'll be so fun to have our family together :)
Yea, I wasn't going to post this pic, but what the heck it's all part of the memory. After a whole night of no sleep and having a baby I guess I have a good reason to look a bit tired :)
My baby "tanning" with her shades on!
Auntie Katie :) It was the perfect timing to have my family here. It was so fun to have them come visit in the hospital. They took such good care of our Kiya which gave Lance the freedom to be with me and the baby. And my mom got to stay longer and be here to help with everything from keeping my house in order to playing with Kiya, and keeping me and Kaylee company in the NICU. I don't know what we would have done without her, thank goodness for mommys!
This pic is so funny, it doesn't even look like her :)

Oh my gosh Kim, CONGRATS!!! She's a beauty and your story was amazing. I can't believe she came so early, but so glad she's doing good. Thank you for sending me that picture of her on my phone when she was born, i love it and it makes me want another brand new baby already! Kids grow up way too fast. I miss when there that tiny and new. :)
YEAH!!! Congratulations!! I thought of calling you the other day because I didn't hear anything about the delivery, I assumed that they induced you cuz of the blood issue. But how awesome is that! You went on your own?!! I am proud of you girl! Ten minutes of pushing too!! No sweat, right?! So glad you had a good birthing experience and now you can say you have experienced both processes of labor. Which do you prefer??! Baby Kaylee is beautiful and looks like she has lots of hair! I didn't realize that she was still in the hospital though until I talked to JD about it yesterday. I hope you get to bring her home soon and that she learns how to eat and breathe better! Can't wait to see her!!! Congrats you guys!
Kim that's so exciting!! Kaylee is beautiful, and I'm so excited that you didn't have to have a C-section and that Kaylee is doing so well!!! How are you feeling?
I was hoping to see some pics!! Congrats! We are so grateful that things went smoothly for you all. She looks like a cutie! As I was reading the story I kept thinking that I am so glad my hubby is like Lance and can stay calm during labor... sheesh! I get scared and my babies come on time! Maybe your thought earlier that night was the Holy Ghost preparing you that the baby was indeed coming! Good luck and we hope baby can come home soon! Call us if you need anything! Love you guys!
Congratulations again! She is such a good looking little girl. Kiya will have so much fun being the big sister.
